Marrakech-known as the imperial city-amazes us by different sites to see and explore. On this walking tour, your host will bring you to many historical and cultural monuments.
Our journey in history will start from in front of the famous twelfth-century Koutoubia mosque where you will be astonished by the tower which is a monumental sheet of Moorish ornament: scalloped keystone arches, serrated merlons and so many other details that our host will share with you.
Then you will head to the Kasbah Quarter where you will enter through one of the oldest gates in Marrakech - Bab Agnaou - and discover the Saadian Tombs which are a historic royal necropolis in the Medina.
Afterwards, we will visit the Mellah, the Jewish Quarter, and unveil the hidden and astonishing stories of Jews who lived in Marrakech for centuries. Historically, Marrakech has strived to be a place of acceptance. Several different cultures and religions have inhabited the Medina of Marrakech all together throughout the past centuries. The Jewish Quarter still preserves its first Synagogue which you will get the chance to visit and go back in time witnessing the Jewish era in the Medina.
We will get lost deep inside the sprawling Bahia Palace which is one of the most visited sites in the Medina because of its
well decorated, embossed, and carved courtyards and tens of rooms reflecting the Islamic spectacular architecture. Its Gardens will fill you with a sense of calm and quietness. Your host has so many stories to narrate inside the palace.
Before our last stop, you will be welcomed to visit Hassan's bakery in order to taste the local fresh bread and discover a communal oven that not only locals but also nomads shared and used together inside each neighbourhood.
Finally, we will finish our journey by our visit to the Secret Garden - located in the heart of the Marrakech medina - a fine example of Islamic gardens and their cultural importance. Standing on the rooftop terrace or from the watchtower allows you to catch one of the best views of The Atlas mountains and the surrounding Riads.
The guide will accompany you to the Square to share with you the last words and of course provide recommendations for places where to eat and other places to visit including some tips to get oriented to our beloved Medina.
